History
2006-07: Weber managed 38 points last season while playing the back end for Gaylord High School.
2007-08: Weber had an up and down season with the Chicago Steel. He twice won the Defensive Player of the Week award in the first two months of the season, but struggled with his production and consistency as the season continued. Weber took a lot of bad penalties and didn’t contribute enough offensively to justify his lack of discipline. Weber was in and out of Chicago’s lineup during the season, and did not play in the playoffs.
Talent Analysis
A big mobile defenseman with offensive upside, Weber was considered by some to be a first-round talent in the 2007 draft. Weber skates very well and has very good all-around upside. He has very good size for a defenseman as well. Weber has not played against top quality opposition, and needs several years to develop. He is a very raw player, and the first few years after the draft will be crucial in his development.
Future
Last year was Weber’s first time playing against upper echelon talent, and it was a good learning experience for him. This season he will be playing for Miami University (Ohio). This will be his freshman year for the RedHawks, and he will likely play several seasons in the NCAA before turning pro.
